Lake House Dreams

I've been decluttering before winter and may have spent too much time indoors of late.  It seems all I do is daydream.  We used to visit Lake Junaluska, NC when the boys were little.  We had a favorite bed and breakfast where we stayed for a modest amount.  Of course, we walked around the lake as a family activity.  A game I played as I walked was "pick out your favorite lake house".
For over thirty years, this was the one I always picked.

It has 5 bedrooms and 2 baths.  I recently discovered it was for sale.
I can't keep my mind off of it!  It has a beautiful view from the front steps!

Now when I found out it was for sale, I was so excited because that meant there were interior views online!  Wow!  This is the real deal!

Beautiful wood!  I wondered what the kitchen and dining room looked like?

Talk about vintage!

I remember driving by the house one summer and someone had draped the entire house and porch in flowing white fabric!  They had just had a wedding on the porch! Oh, how romantic!

I began to wonder what would I wear if this were my house?  Fashions from the 20s, of course.

And how would we drive to the lake?

In our Model A, of course!  Ha! Ha!

Oh, how I wish I were on my lake house porch relaxing right now...
Wait a minute, I have an old turn of the century house we are restoring...

"Nostalgia is denial - denial of the painful present... the name for this denial is golden age thinking - the erroneous notion that a different time period is better than the one ones living in - its a flaw in the romantic imagination of those people who find it difficult to cope with the present."
                                                        ...from movie Midnight in Paris

I better get back to decluttering the house (coping with the present).  I'm sharing my daydreams this afternoon.  By the way, if you are interested in buying the Lake House, I've provided the link below.  I have nothing to do with the buying or selling of the house.  I will say...that I was shocked at the price!  They are asking $649,500  but I was sure they would be asking a million dollars.  The view is heavenly and well worth a million.

Back to work!  Thank you for taking a break with me today!
Love,
Lottie

Autumn Decorations

Welcome!
Autumn will be here in a few days!  Oh, this is such a sweet time.  I wanted to share my minimal decorating with you.  I've never been very crafty or artistic in any way.  But I've learned over the years to display just a few decorations that I really love and I will feel more at home.  Warning: all of these are store bought.

I love the squirrel salt and pepper shakers!  $1.99 at Walmart
(Made in China)  We have grey squirrels but that's ok.

Just a few autumn colors to decorate the side porch.  In October, we will fill this space with plastic pumpkins!

A scarecrow lady seems to be a common theme in my house! I wonder why????

And that's it!  I have a pretty fall tablecloth I forgot to take a picture of to show you.  It is really not about the store bought decorations.  It is all about love and home and winter coming down the road.  My heart goes out to the people in Colorado with all the floods and destruction still going on.  Just like the people in New Jersey and New York with Sandy and the Gulf Coast with Katrina, it is about love and home and winter coming down the road.

Thank you for visiting today!

Love,
Lottie

Putting Food By

We've been busy freezing blueberries, peaches, and okra.
DH has been canning apples, applesauce, apple butter, and pears.
We have been "putting food by".

"To 'put by' is an early nineteenth century way of saying
to "save something you don't have to use now,
against the time when you'll need it.'
...Putting Food By, 1975

We will enjoy these pears on those cold days of Winter!

"Putting food by is the antidote for running scared."

Love,

Pink House Dreams!

I just love pink houses!  But I don't live in one.  My blue cottage is our home and I'm happy with it.  DH calls the color gray, but its blue.  We both love our home ... and there is no way I'll ever get a pink house as long as I'm married to DH so all I can do is dream.  I don't mind. I've been married to DH for forty years this year and its like living with Cary Grant some days and Sean Connery the other days.  Not too bad!  I have a lot to be thankful for, but back to a pink house...and dreaming.  If you haven't been to OLD HOUSE DREAMS, you must visit it and "pick out" the old house of your dreams.  That is what I do when I can't sleep at night.

1900 – $99,900 ( listed on link now $85,000)  – 59 E High St, Union City, PA – MLS #24020
Kelly's blog has over 2,000 houses with links to more pictures. She has nothing to do with selling these houses nor do I.  I just wanted to share the website.

Sweet Dreams and Happy Pink Saturday!
