Healthy October

This is Richard B. Russell Lake between South Carolina and Georgia.  It is one of the quietest and most restful lakes I have visited.  A part of being healthy is visiting beautiful places.

Healthy October Update:

I'm still walking that mile plus every day!  I had started walking back on July 1st and wrote it on a calendar page the first month and created a habit.  I hope this habit stays with me forever!  My body feels so much better after I walk!

Now in October,  I added a little extra.  My sweet new neighbor invited me to visit a nearby senior center where she is taking an Arthritis Exercise Class.  Although it is painful at times, it seems to help, especially the arthritis in my hands.  So I go (and wear makeup) every Tuesday and Thursday.  We do our movements sitting in a chair.  The cost is the membership in the senior center, $4 a month.  The first two weeks were very painful, and I thought about quitting, but I decided to stick it out.

As for weight loss, I am still losing and gaining the same 4 lbs over and over and over.  I've planned and written in a food diary each week since August 1st but have been inconsistent with food choices.  In other words, I've eaten off plan.

A big disappointment has been that my doctor has "suggested" I add another medication to my list.  The walking and exercise has been great, but I still need to lose 20 lbs for him to start reducing  my medication.  Diabetes is a bad disease.  No other way to say it.

Thank you for visiting today!  Let's go for a walk around the lake!  They have a great salad at the restaurant by the marina. Hope you are having a healthy October!

Love,
Lottie

  1. Hi Lottie, first of all, way to go for joining the arthritis exercise class! That and the walking have got to be a really good thing you're doing for your body. And visiting beautiful places. And keeping a food diary. All good things for a diabetic whether pounds come off or not. I need to do these things too. I too have kept that food diary since August 12th. And I know it helps make me so much more aware of what I'm really eating. I've begun to write down sleeping hours and moods and how I felt that day too. I believe it is all going to pay off eventually. We just have to keep on it and try each day and not give up. We can do it and help manage our diabetes healthily too.

    1. Maybe I should start writing down sleep habits, too.

  3. Hi Lottie, although I live in Geaorgia, I've never been to this lake, but I'd love to. Maybe one day.

    1. Lake Russell on the Georgia side is in Elbert County, on the way to Elberton, GA. It is very quiet and peaceful.

  4. So sorry to hear about the medication. At our age it is harder to lose the weight. Boy, have I found that out. Just keep up the walking. I need to find a class for arthritis around here. Sounds like something good. I have the worse knee pain.

    1. The arthritis class has helped my hands and shoulders. We do exercises for the legs and knees also but do everything in a chair.

    2. I have not been to that lake---it does look peaceful. I know what you mean about adding and subtracting the same pounds over and over. I do the same thing! It is frustrating! But food is so good ;-). I walk most days and it also helps psychologically--lifting my spirit so to speak.
