Finding Balance in the North Georgia Mountains!

Ever had an opportunity to visit an Alpine village in Germany?  No, not
me.  But we went to a neat place for a weekend getaway in Helen, GA.
It is a pretty little place to visit!  :-)

We stayed in an adorable spot along the river.

 

And we visited antique shops and a neat country store, Old Sautee Store.

Inside the store, it is like walking back into the past.

Of course, an old country store has to be warmed by a fire.  That

is my sweet DH by the fire.

 It was a great getaway!  It was a beautiful weekend.  And we

saw this beautiful ice fountain in town.

Which brings me to two points.  First, gosh, what a beautiful ice
fountain!  If I had not gotten out and put my coat on to take this trip,
I would have never seen it.  And, seeing it with my DH made it all
that more special.  (He got out of the car and took
the picture for me. :-)  We could have  stayed home this weekend
and watched TV, or we could have gone on a trip!

Second, we need to always have balance in our lives.  We have
both been working hard this winter and we both were tired.We
tried taking short trips and we were just tired from driving.  We
needed to get out and get away from work and have fun!  I'll try
to keep more balance from now on.

Time for a field trip to Fort Hill

What a beautiful day!  The sun is shinning and it is 61 degrees outside
My DH is plowing a garden this afternoon!  After all the snow and rain,
we decided to get out and take a field trip together this morning.

One of our favorite places to visit is the historic home, Fort Hill, in
Clemson, SC.  I was trying to explain to my DH that I wanted to

decorate our guest room like one of the bedrooms restored in Fort Hill.

He couldn't visualize what I was saying so he suggested we take the

drive.  Fort Hill was home to John C. Calhoun's family and Thomas

Clemson's family.  It is beautifully restored. I'm sorry I forgot my
camera this morning.  After touring the home, I realized the room in
my memory was not there.

Then, on the long drive back, I remembered the room I was thinking
about had been in my grandma's house. :-)  I was embarrassed to tell
DH I had mixed up the memories, but he just laughed.  I think he is
getting used to me mixing up memories.  It was a nice day for a drive,
anyway!

Grandma's house burned years ago.  Wish we could visit again.

Now, time for me to get outside in the sunshine and get to work!  Hope you have a great week!

Pottery Around the House

I just LOVE all kinds of pottery, especially from one particular potter
I met in Alabama over forty years ago.  I guess I had a crush on him.
Anyway, he would knead clay, throw pots on a potters wheel, glaze
them, fire them, sell them at art shows and let me have what was left over for free! 

I've put some in my kitchen and dining room and they are
a part of my life as much as anything else I own.

 

  

  

He would also made raku pottery, which looked dangerous to me 

when I saw him firing them.

 I love this potter's work so much that I decided to 

marry him!
