In the Kitchen - Canisters

I was in the kitchen tonight and I was filling up my canisters, when I thought about how important it is to surround yourself with beauty and the things you love.  I love the colors and the shape and how they look on my kitchen counter.  Every time I walk in my kitchen, I see those canisters and smile. They also have special meaning to me because they were the first birthday gift I ever gave to myself  from me! Yes, I was over fifty years old before it occurred to me to give myself something for my birthday that I really wanted.

So,  I don't keep flour and sugar and meal in these...I have Swiss Miss chocolate packs in one, tea bags in another, individual Spenda packs in the smallest one, and "cookies" or healthy snack bars in the big one. Maybe because the canisters are so pretty, none of my sons or my husband ever open the lids to see what I have in there!

Pink Sea Shells Lamp

I love this little pink lamp with sea shells. My husband
and two little sons, age 8 and 10, went on a fishing
vacation during spring break in Sebastian, FL. about
fifteen years ago.  We stopped in a K-Mart store to
buy some fishing stuff for the boys when I turned
down the wrong aisle and came upon this cute little
pink lamp with sea shells.  I just had to have it!  My sons, on the other hand, were really mad at me for buying it! Those memories from that trip are why this lamp is so precious to me now! Thank you for visiting!   Lottie

Big Cats

When I was a little girl, my family would visit the Dallas Zoo often.  My favorite exhibit was the big cat building.  I thought the striped tigers and spotted leopards were the most beautiful!

A few years ago, my heart ached for a cat.  My grown family went with me to the animal shelter and we looked at all the cats.  There I was, a little girl again, looking at cats.  One striped kitten was looking back at me through the cage.  I fell in love.  I took her home and named her Elizabeth.  She chased every shadow!  She grew up and loved the outdoors.  Here are some pictures of my little/ big cat.

I keep telling Elizabeth she shouldn't wear her pajamas outside!

A Little Pink Here and There

Today is Pink Saturday over at Beverly's How Sweet the Sound.  

This is my first Saturday and I'm looking forward to posting all my favorite pretty

This is my shower curtain.  It really only has a little pink here and there, but that is what I like about it!

New Year's Day ! 2010

I think this was the happiest New Year's Day my DH and I have ever spent!  We were able to share a meal with our extended family, including some precious nieces and nephews!

But first, we took a week to work on the roof and paint the dining room.

We ran out of time and there was still trim to paint, but we had to stop to decorate and cook before family arrived.

The food will go on the table in the center hall.

It was time to prepare the black-eye-peas and the hoppin-john.
My DH is a true Renaissance man!  He can paint and cook and do EVERYTHING well! 

Then the family came and brought the most wonderful food!  Thank you to everyone!  Everything was so good!  Here is a picture of the table.

I wish I had a picture of the dessert table and punch bowl!  It was AWESOME!

I also wish I had a picture of everyone who was there.  Some pics were too dark to include.  The music and singing was wonderful in the afternoon.  We could still hear it after everyone had gone. It seemed our old 1907 homeplace came ALIVE with everyone there!

Thank you to everyone who came for New Year's Day and we miss and love the one's who couldn't make it.
